Carroll Shelby the Legendary Car Designer

In May of this year the automotive industry lost one of its greats with the passing of Carroll Shelby. From humble beginnings, Shelby went on to become a world-champion racing driver. However, he is perhaps best remembered for designing and building innovative and iconic cars like the Cobra, high-performance versions of the Ford Mustang and injecting expertise and testosterone into the development of the Dodge Viper.

During the 1950’s Shelby drove for the Cad-Allard, Aston-Martin and Maserati teams and in 1959 he won the brutal endurance race 24 Hours of Le Mans, co-driving a British made Aston-Martin. A heart ailment forced him to quit driving and in 1962 he founded Shelby-American. It became one of the most successful independent sports-car builders of the era.

Shelby began building his Cobras using the chassis and body of a two-seater from AC Cars of England and packing powerful Ford V-8 Engines into the lightweight British roadsters. The Cobra won the United States Road Racing Championship in 1963 and the Grand Touring world championship in the large-engine category in 1965.

In 1964, Lee Iacocca asked Shelby to help create a high-performance version of the recently launched Mustang. In January 1965, the first Shelby Mustang, the GT350, made its début and a legend was born. Shelby also developed the Ford GT40, the Shelby GT500 and the GT500KR (KR stands for King of the Road). The Shelby-American team’s Ford GT40 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966 and 1968 ending a six year winning streak by Ferrari.

Ford Racing put a video together of Carroll Shelby “In His Own Words”.  It is fascinating…

The famous Shelby Cobra and the many other high performance vehicles that Shelby designed and built enlivened, and in many cases, revolutionized the automotive industry for the past 50 years. He will be missed but his legacy lives on.

Bullrunners get ready to start their engines!

Every year the Bullrun organizers try to find a suitably glamorous location to start the rally. They’ve launched the Bullrun from Times Square, New York to Fremont Street in Las Vegas. This year, they have a fantastic start line location – Hollywood Boulevard!

The official Bullrun hotel in Los Angeles will be Hotel Andaz on Sunset Boulevard. Bullrunners check-in on the 22nd June. The event starts with a big party on Friday night then……Over 100 cars will line up in front of the Dolby Theatre (previously called the Kodak Theatre) on Saturday, June 23rd and prepare for the seven days of automotive mayhem that lies ahead!

The rally drivers will be on Hollywood Boulevard from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The rally will officially begin with the waving of the green flag by a special guest star celebrity, still to be announced. Any guesses?

Luxury Loyalists

Recently Polk and AutoTrader.com conducted a study called ‘The 2012 New Luxury Vehicle Loyalty Study‘. They analyzed patterns for buyers of six core luxury brands: Acura, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz.  A luxury loyalist is defined as a luxury new vehicle buyer/household that purchases a replacement vehicle or an additional vehicle from the same luxury brand that they already own. When loyalists were questioned about why they stayed loyal to a brand, the top five reasons were:

  1. Brand Affinity (cited by 44%)
  2. Quality/Reliability (cited by 33%)
  3. Driving Performance (cited by 24%)
  4. Price/Finance/Value (cited by 16%)
  5. Styling/Design (cited by 16%)

The study also revealed that the primary drivers of loyalty differed by brand, as in, the main reason Acura buyers stay loyal is not the same for BMW buyers’ loyalty. Here are a few points of interest:

  • Brand affinity ranks significantly higher among Cadillac loyalists than any other luxury brand.
  • Quality/reliability is cited more often by Mercedes-Benz and Acura loyalists as a reason for returning to that brand.
  • BMW loyalists are more apt to identify driving performance as a reason for their return purchase than other luxury owners.
  • Price ranks much higher as a reason for Acura owner loyalty compared to the other luxury brands in the study.
  • Audi loyalists rank styling and design significantly higher than other brand loyalists as a reason to stay.
  • Acura is the only brand where technology and innovation rank as a “Top Five” reason to stay loyal to the brand.
  • Dealership loyalty emerges as a “Top Five” reason for brand loyalty among Lexus and Mercedes-Benz owners.

No matter what your luxury brand is, Landmark|Palladini Leasing in Toronto and Auto|One Leasing in Vancouver have you covered. So stop by, we’d love to see you and have you drive away in the luxury you’re used to.

Mercedes-Benz in Canada

Both of our locations, in Toronto and Vancouver, have a profusion of Mercedes-Benz on hand. I bet you’re curious as to why that is?!

Mercedes-Benz Canada reported that the company has surpassed several significant all-time sales records by delivering a grand total of 32,914 Mercedes-Benz and Smart units throughout 2011.  That’s a 4% increase over 2010.

Mercedes-Benz dominates the high luxury class in Canada with a 35.6% market share. “I am tremendously proud to end this year on such a positive note. When we reflect on the past year, we have a lot to celebrate, including continued significant investment in our national infrastructure and another year of strong momentum that has allowed us to surpass previously established sales milestones to become the leader in the Canadian luxury passenger car market,” said Tim A. Reuss, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada.

What does all this mean to you? It means that Landmark | Palladini Leasing & Auto | One Leasing offer a great selection of Mercedes-Benz for you to flirt with.

Top 10 Reasons to Lease a Vehicle

Most Canadians want a new vehicle every three to four years. Leasing is a way of obtaining a vehicle for a defined time. Looks to me like Canadians and leasing belong together.

This list, along with a huge selection of vehicles can be found at either of our websites:  www.landmarkleasing.ca & www.autoone.ca

Top Reasons to Lease

  1. Lower monthly investment than what you would pay to service a loan for the same investment. Lease payments are generally lower than a loan payment with like term and interest rate. The result is you can have a lower payment or keep the payment the same and drive a nicer vehicle.
  2. You only pay tax on the monthly payment, rather than up front on the full price of the vehicle. That adds up to big savings.
  3. Down payment is flexible
  4. Trade more often
  5. Cash flow benefits as you avoid putting too much of your money in a vehicle
  6. Drive more car for the money
  7. Drive new for the price of used
  8. Gratification of an affordable new vehicle more often (every 2-3 years).
  9. Peace of mind of knowing your vehicle is under a new car warranty. Even better if you turn the vehicle in before the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty expires, and you never have to deal with mechanical difficulties.
  10. Leasing does not affect your ability to borrow for your business because a lease unlike a loan is neither an asset nor a liability.

If you are not convinced, I’m going to give you one more reason to lease:  If you lease a car, you may be able to deduct the entire amount, up to CCRA’s maximum (currently $800 plus taxes per month), while considering any tax restrictions relative to your employment, business-use, or a percentage attributed for personal use.  Your accountant will be able to advise you on your own situation.

If you are interested in discussing the benefits of you leasing a vehicle with your lifestyle, stop by our Vancouver or Toronto location. We would be more than happy to help.

You Want to Drive a Luxury Brand

We all want to drive a luxury vehicle, and more of us are. DesRosiers Automotive Consultants note that the luxury share of the new-vehicle market in Canada has tripled from 1990 to 2010. That incline isn’t slowing down in 2011, BMW sales were up 10.5% last month, Mercedes-Benz up 6.5%, Audi up 17%, Land Rover up 21.4%, & Porsche up 14.9%.

Still, not all of us can afford the new-vehicle luxury market, but many of us can afford the leased-vehicle luxury market. This is where we come in. With more people buying luxury vehicles it increases our inventory base.

If you have a vehicle in mind, let us know… we’ll find it for you… that’s our job. We offer experienced, knowledgeable and trustworthy professionals, unlimited choice, innovative programs and flexible payment plans.

We’d love to hear from you & have you drive away in luxury.

Who we are & What we do.

We are car enthusiasts who love to drive nice vehicles and we are one of Canada’s largest automobile leasing companies with over 26 years of experience. The vehicles we lease are generally low mileage and rare, and they get noticed.

2008 Land Rover Range Rover

We understand that the average Canadian trades in their car every three to four years. We also understand that the average lease is shorter than the average financing loan (5 years)…. so we thought ‘why buy & sell, buy & sell, when all you really need to do is lease?”  Keep it simple.

Leasing tends to be a lower monthly investment than what you would pay to service a loan for the same investment. Lease payments are generally lower than a loan payment with like term and interest rate. The result is you can have a lower payment or keep the payment the same and drive a nicer vehicle.

So, if you have a vehicle in mind, let us know… we’ll find it for you… that’s our job. We offer experienced, knowledgeable and trustworthy professionals, unlimited selection, innovative programs and flexible payment plans.

We’d love to hear from you.
